The Aristocats – Movie Review
This is a very cute and artistic Disney movie that my child really enjoys watching, and one that I enjoy watching with him. Taking place in Paris, in 1910, the story is about a very wealthy elderly woman, Madame Adelaide Bonfamille, who lives in a mansion with her cat Duchess and her three kittens, Berlioz, Marie, and Toulouse. The butler, Edgar, also lives in the mansion and takes care of everything, including the cats.
Madame contacts her attorney, Georges Hautecourt, and has him come to her home to make her will. Edgar overhears the conversation and soon finds out that the entire estate and all of Madame’s possessions will first be given to her cats, and after the cats have lived out their full life spans, everything will revert to Edgar. On learning this, Edgar decides that if he can somehow get rid of the cats, then he will immediately gain the inheritance without having to wait. He cooks up a plan (literally) to make the cats fall into a deep sleep, and takes them in a basket to a distant area and leaves them there.
Duchess and her kittens awaken from their deep sleep just as a thunderstorm starts, and they spend the night in the basket. The next morning an alley cat, Thomas O’Malley, appears on the scene and offers to help Duchess and her kittens return to their home in Paris. Along the way, they encounter two British geese, Abigail and Amelia Gabble, who add some corny humor to the story. They also run into O’Malley’s friends, a band of alley cats who later help to rescue Duchess and the kittens.
This story is cute and fun. It’s an older Disney film, of course, but high quality and great family entertainment. I recommend watching it with your kids. ^_^
