Disney-Pixar “Up” – Movie Review
This is an interesting movie with an unusual storyline. When I first watched this, the first 8 minutes were very confusing to me. The quick clips of a boy and girl becoming friends, then jumping ahead to their marriage ceremony, and within a few minutes the main female character had passed away, leaving the husband an elderly widower. I had no idea what the movie was about.
It then transitions into a story about the elderly man and a young boy who is trying to get his final Wilderness Explorer badge for an adventure (boy scouts type of thing) club he’s in. So basically the movie follows these two. The elderly woman who passed away had always dreamed of going to a place in South America called Paradise Falls, but was never able to go. The elderly man ends up going there and the boy accidentally goes with him.
I will say this is a pretty good movie. One thing that still makes me wonder, though, is how the elderly man talks to his house, referring to it by his deceased wife’s name. He does this frequently throughout the movie, and I don’t know if he believes that his wife’s spirit is still in that house or what.
There are no sexual references, which is a good thing (a lot of animated movies have sexual implications in certain scenes). My child watches this movie a lot, as it’s one of his current favorites.
This is an emotional movie in some ways, and a lot of people think it’s beautiful, romantic, and sad all at the same time, because of the couple at the beginning of the film. There are some emotional moments throughout, and also a bit of humor.
Overall, I can say that yes I would recommend it as a good family movie.
